Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition 2012 Recap

Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition wrapped up last week in Chicago. We met a ton of interesting people and learned a lot about the ecommerce industry. The four day event was dedicated to educating retailers and vendors on top questions, needs and trends in the ecommerce industry. Some notable speakers included Gilt Groupe’s founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Alexis Maybank, Barnes & Noble CEO, William Lynch, Jr., and Walmart’s President and CEO, Joel Anderson.

We secured a spot on the exhibit floor (with over 1,000 others!) where we met all kinds of interesting people like Rebecca from natural pet food company, Nature’s Variety, Jason and Patrick from Zazzle, Brian from Hammacher Schlemmer, and Jason from ePromos (he is a swag expert). We also had a great time with our “neighbors” on the exhibit floor who made the event even more enjoyable — fellow Boston based ad tech company Criteo as well as Sidecar, ProfitPoint (who helped us set up), and Ensighten.

The general sentiment from retailers about Facebook Advertising and Nanigans’ Ad Engine was excitement! After walking retailers through the AdEngine, retailers were most impressed with Nanigans’ ability to measure and optimize campaigns for downstream actions a user takes after clicking the ad, like making a purchase or adding a product to their shopping cart. Both small and large retailers saw how valuable Nanigans’ AdEngine is for not only driving traffic to their sites, but using actions taken on the site to understand the shopping behavior of social consumers. There was a great amount of buzz as well as questions about Facebook Advertising from both big and small retailers at the event, who were eager to learn more when they visited the Nanigans exhibit booth.

In order to increase the hype for IRCE 2012 we held an Apple iPad giveaway. To be entered to win, attendees had to sign up to receive pre-conference emails filled with exclusive Facebook Advertising data and best practices. The iPad ultimately went to Brian Faidell of Textbooks.com–congratulations Brian, it was great getting to chat with you!
