Stanley Cup Fever: Who Wins on Facebook?

Written by: Jennie White, Marketing Associate

Our Boston based headquarters has been in a flurry of excitement with Bruins fever. The city erupted after the last minute victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs and we were thrilled when the Bruins swept the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now that we’ve reached the Stanley Cup Finals against the Chicago Blackhawks, our Bruins fever has never been hotter!

We looked to our Ad Engine platform to see how the Bruins and Blackhawks compared on Facebook. While we love our Bruins, we were disappointed to see that their Facebook reach fell short of the Blackhawks. Not to worry Bruins, Nanigans is still behind you all the way to the cup! Below we compared the reach of each hockey team, their top players, and their gender and age breakdown. See below to find out how your team and favorite players stack up.

As mentioned before the Blackhawks (and much to our chagrin) have a higher overall reach than the Bruins on Facebook.

Next, we took a look at the gender and age breakdown of each team. As we’ve seen in our other sports related interest posts, men are more interested in the teams than women.

For the age breakdown, the 21-30 year old age bracket had the highest reach.

Now for the exciting part, let’s take a look at how our favorite players compare on Facebook. We used our Ad Engine platform to check the reach of each player from both the Blackhawks and the Bruins’ rosters and find the 5 players with the highest reach.

Tyler Seguin took the lead for the Bruins and Patrick Kane won it for the Blackhawks. Unfortunately, Patrick Kane beat out Tyler Seguin for overall reach.

If Facebook determined the  Stanley Playoff Championship game, then the Blackhawks would win, but if it was determined by Nanigans then the Bruins would take the cup.

That being said, go Bruins!
